Staying Sane During the Election

This election is one of the most intense, important, crucial, impactful, and stressful that this nation has ever been apart of. People who are witnessing this election have shared what they are doing to stay sane this week. I asked my followers on Instagram if they have any concerns and what they are doing to deal with those concerns.

These are the questions I put on my Instagram story on election day.

With the responses that I received, many of the people were concerned about the outcome of this election. As for how they are dealing with these concerns, a trending topic that I received was either drugs or staying off social media. I find it interesting that many of my followers wanted to relieve their stress by smoking or drinking.

The top responses are for the self care tips and the bottom responses are for the concerns.

As for the other media that I saw on Twitter their was many memes about the election that I saw. Whether it was Nevada being slow to count their votes, memes about the election in general, or memes making fun of the candidates, I saw a lot of them.

Citizen journalism also came to play when I went on TikTok or Twitter. Many people were trying to be helpful and wanted to spread information to make sure people voted and had their vote counted.

I incorporated the “type something” tool that Instagram offers, which I didn’t do the last time I asked questions on my Instagram. Although these responses weren’t as thorough, I received more than I anticipated. Looking back on it I should have made my concern question more open ended because I received a bunch of yes and no answers. The election is not over yet but we will see how it plays out. If social media is crazy right now, I can’t imagine what it will be like after a winner is declared.
